"One of the biggest mistakes" Taylor Swift could make in the Ed Sheeran scandal has been revealed by an expert.
Taylor's longtime friend Ed has been embroiled in drama this past week after Macklemore was dropped from his US stadium tour following on-stage pro-Palestinian remarks. The controversy has thrown the remaining dates of Ed's Loop Tour into severe crisis, drawing widespread criticism from fans, activists and the music industry. It's also led to ticket prices dropping for his remaining shows.
After Macklemore stated that he stood with the Palestinian people, major stadium owners such as Robert Kraft refused to host Ed's tour unless he dropped Macklemore, which his promoters soon did.

Following Macklemore's removal from the final eight shows, Ed's other support acts, including Finneas and Lukas Graham, swiftly pulled out of the tour.
During Ed's latest show on Saturday at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, the star broke down in tears, telling fans that he believed items would be thrown at him. He also partially read from a teleprompter as he addressed the situation.

"I've never wanted to be an activist musician, but this put me in the middle of an important and passionate argument about freedom of speech," he said as pro-Palestine protestors chanted about him outside the venue.

However, Ed hasn't just faced backlash from everyday people; numerous stars have spoken out against him, including singers Paloma Faith and Ken Casey.
One person who has not addressed the drama, though, is Ed's longtime friend Taylor Swift, who has remained silent.
Speaking exclusively to The Mirror US, two PR experts revealed whether the Cruel Summer singer should speak out on Ed's situation, with one claiming it could be "one of the biggest mistakes" of her career if she does so.

"I wouldn't expect Taylor Swift to publicly distance herself from Ed Sheeran at this stage, and from a PR perspective, I don't think she needs to," Kasra Dash, founder of The Masterminders, said. "One of the biggest mistakes celebrities can make during somebody else's crisis is publicly reacting when nobody has actually asked them to."
Kasra explained that the moment she "distances herself from Ed," Taylor then "makes herself a part of the story." Instead, by privately supporting Ed, she would remain outside of the drama while maintaining her friendship with the Brit.
"I'd only expect her team to reconsider that if the backlash became significantly bigger, Taylor started being repeatedly dragged into the conversation, or continuing to publicly associate with Ed began affecting her own reputation or commercial relationships," the public relations expert added.
Concluding, Kasra believes that "saying nothing is the strongest move," as one doesn't want to make someone else's "PR crisis" into their own.

Digital marketer and social media specialist at DCE Loving Brands, José Rolão, had differing thoughts, as he noted that Taylor may distance herself from Ed.
"In my view, artists often end up following the dominant trend in order to avoid backlash and because of public pressure," José told us. "In this case, I think some degree of distancing will become increasingly likely, as the backlash surrounding Ed Sheeran is becoming huge. And, in fact, it can take years to build credibility and only seconds to lose it."
