Volusia County Florida
Ortiz pleaded not guilty to more than a dozen felony counts on Wednesday, reported the Associated Press*. *She was charged with one count of attempted murder, 10 felony counts of assault with a semiautomatic firearm, and three felony counts of shooting at an inhabited dwelling or camper at the time of her arrest. The 10 assault charges were for Rihanna, her family, two staffers, and two people staying in a neighboring house.
Ortiz wore a yellow prison uniform and had her blonde hair in braids during her hearing. She waived her right to a speedy preliminary hearing, the AP reported. Her attorney requested that her bail be reduced from $1.875 million to $70,000 based on her financial circumstances, but the request was denied.
"This case involves a dangerous, deliberate shooting into occupied homes," Deputy District Attorney Alexander Bott said. "This is the kind of conduct that could easily have resulted in multiple homicides."
A motive for the shooting has not yet been determined. Ortiz told investigators that she was not "attempting murder" after she was arrested, the *Los Angeles Times* reported.* *She declined to answer any further questions.
