The race to determine a spot in the Women's College World Series has hit an unexpected pause.

The winner-take-all matchup between No. 11 Texas Tech and No. 6 Florida softball at the Gainesville Super Regional at Katie Seashole Pressly Stadium in Gainesville, Florida is in a weather delay.

The game was stopped in the bottom of the first inning with the Gators holding on to an early 4-3 lead due to lightning in the area.

The Red Raiders, the reigning national runner-up, won the first game of the best-of-three series on Friday, but Florida responded on Saturday with a 10-2 victory in which it teed off on Texas Tech star pitcher NiJaree Canady.

Texas Tech vs Florida paused due to lightning

12:58 p.m.: Florida and Texas Tech's matchup in Game 3 of the Gainesville Super Regional was stopped in the bottom of the first inning because of lightning that was within eight miles of the stadium.

Every time there's a lightning strike in the vicinity of the stadium, 30 minutes will need to elapse without lightning in order for the game to resume.
