Tenacious D star Kyle Gass expects the band to make a comeback.
More than a year after the musician joked about the attempted assassination of then-former president and presidential candidate Donald Trump, he's said that he expects he and fellow band member Jack Black to return to the stage.
"It's like a marriage," Gass told *Rolling Stone* in an interview published Wednesday. "You go through these ups and downs, and try to understand your partner."

He added, "We will serve no D-wine before it's D-time — but we will be back. We will return."
They "hashed it out," he said, noting that he's "felt terrible ever since, because it's such a responsibility to not screw up like that."**
Gass continued, "I wouldn’t wish it on anybody. It's one of those things, once it was picked up, it just got worse and worse. It was a Defcon 2 for sure in the camp. And I did it. It was hard to take responsibility for it, but it was my f----up. When you're in it, it's hard to even think straight. It's just this thing flooding and coming at you. We had to take the break. And I got it. Jack has this magnificent career; I can't even count the franchises now. So as hard as it was, I just had to take the long ride home."**
Gass made his controversial comment in July 2024, at the first stop of their Tenacious D and the Spicy Meatball Tour in Sydney, hours after Trump was struck by a bullet at a rally in Pennsylvania. When he was given a birthday cake onstage, the musician wished, "Don't miss Trump next time," before blowing out the candles.**
Afterward, Black said that he had been "blindsided" by the comment and canceled their tour.

"I would never condone hate speech or encourage political violence in any form," the *Tropic Thunder* star wrote on social media. "After much reflection, I no longer feel it is appropriate to continue the Tenacious D tour, and all future creative plans are on hold. I am grateful to the fans for their support and understanding."
Meanwhile, Gass himself apologized, too.
"The line I improvised onstage Sunday night in Sydney was highly inappropriate, dangerous and a terrible mistake," he wrote in a post that's since been deleted. "I don't condone violence of any kind, in any form, against anyone."
What happened was "a tragedy," he continued, "and I'm incredibly sorry for my severe lack of judgment. I profoundly apologize to those I've let down and truly regret any pain I've caused."

Black has also said he believes that the comedy rock band will be back together at some point.
"We had to take a break, but I love the D and everybody takes a break sometime," he told *Entertainment Tonight* in August 2024. He vowed then that "we'll be back."
Black and Gass formed Tenacious D in 1994. They've released four studio albums since, beginning with their self-titled album in 2001 and their most recent, 2018's *Post-Apocalypto*.
Along the way, the funny guys have also appeared in several TV shows and movies, including their own, *Tenacious D in the Pick of Destiny*, in 2006.**
