Reacher’s Alan Ritchson Admits He Doesn’t Feel ‘Worthy of Love’ Amid Divorce From Wife Catherine

Reacher star Alan Ritchson is meditating on the importance of self-love amid his divorce from estranged wifeCatherine Ritchson.

“Here’s some post-sauna clarity for ya. Today I want to talk about learning to love yourself and how I think this could be the great antidote to our times and the frustration that many of us feel,” Ritchson, 43, said in a video shared via Instagram on Sunday, September 20. “You know, the world bombards us with so many messages, each day, about how we’re not quite enough, right?”

The actor continued, “If we just bought this thing or if we were not sober we’d be more fun, more relational, we’d be better friends, you know? If we had this or that material thing we’d be worth more to the world and more worthy of love, right? It’s kind of the message that capitalism teaches us and it’s hard in western cultures to get rid of that lie.”

The Ministry of Ungentlemany Warfare star’s inspirational message comes not long after he announced his split from Catherine, 37, after two decades of marriage.

“After 20 years together, Cat and I have decided to end our marriage and continue alongside one another in a different way,” the pair announced in a joint statement shared via Instagram on September 12. “We grew up together, we built a life and a family together.”

The pair continued at the time, “We are raising three incredible boys, who will always be the center of our world. Nothing can diminish what these years have meant to us — or the love and respect we will always share.”

According to court documents obtained by Us on Monday, September 14, the actor and his estranged wife tried to reconcile just three months after the actor initially filed for divorce in December 2025. According to the docs, the former couple filed a “suspension of the proceedings” three months later as they attempted to salvage their marriage.

A judge agreed to the order and suspended their divorce for six months. The documents stated that Alan and Catherine “may resume living together as husband and wife and their acts.” Per the court, the divorce could proceed if the pair’s reconciliation attempt was ultimately unsuccessful.

On Saturday, the star reminisced on how self-love is the key to breaking dangerous cycles and better showing up for not only oneself but for others.

“I, personally, I grew up in a home where my parents, when my mother would notice that I got a lot of attention effortlessly without trying,” he continued. “As a kid, people would just approach us. ‘Look at him’ and, ‘Oh, he’s so, you know, so cute.’ In my ear, she’d whisper, ‘It’s not all about you.’”

Alan added, “This reduction of myself when I wasn’t even trying to get attention, so you hear that enough times and you start to feel like, ‘I’m not only not worthy of love, but I’m not supposed to be loved.’ And you carry that into adulthood, and I’m sure we all have our own versions of that, whatever that might look like. But what does it look like when we don’t love ourselves, right? We’re constantly escaping into some other thing that ultimately reduces us into a lower vibrational state of ourselves — a lower form of who we’re truly meant to be.”

The star went on to pontificate on the negative consequences of not feeling as if a person is worthy of love — one that perpetuates a vicious cycle of hate and dehumanization.

“One of the nastier consequences is that if we feel like, ‘Well I’m not worthy of love,’ we look outwards and we do see [that] there’s a spectrum of wickedness and goodness in the world. And we see other people who feel like are below us in the spectrum, and if I’m not worthy of love they’re definitely not worthy of love,” he said. “And suddenly we’re in the camp of making monsters of others and we have enemies and we work against them and we stop serving the world the way that we’re called to and then we certainly have a reason to feel like we’re not worthy of love.

He added, “It’s a wicked cycle, but it starts with us saying, ‘Hold on, I’m enough.’ And you’re enough. You’re enough, and to anybody else who needs to hear that — I need to hear that – you’re enough. No matter what you’re going through, you’re enough.”
