On May 22, Prince William paid a visit to the Isles of Scilly, a location he and his family have vacationed at before.
He visited the Isles of Scilly Hospital and met a 94-year-old resident named Dot Elvin, who cheekily asked him to stay in her room—even though it only has one bed.
The Prince of Wales’s sense of humor was on full display as he bantered with her on Friday—at one point even involving wife Kate Middleton in the exchange.
While visiting the Isles of Scilly, Prince William handled a flirty comment from a 94-year-old woman perfectly—and was “left blushing” from the encounter, Hello! reported.
On May 22, the Prince of Wales visited the Isles of Scilly Hospital and met care residents in the new “Island’s View” rooms, the outlet reported. Among the elderly men and women he met was 94-year-old Dot Elvin, and as the future king introduced himself, she cheekily asked, “Are you coming to stay?”
“Stay in your room?” William responded, though Hello! reported the prince was “unable to believe” her bold comment. “There’s only one bed, Dot. It might be a bit cozy!” To this, Elvin responded, “I don’t care.”

This made William roar with laughter and slap his leg, telling her, “Well, in that case, Dot, I’m sure we’ll come to some sort of arrangement.”
To this, Elvin asked if William would bring his wife Kate Middleton along with him for his next visit. The Prince of Wales joked that he needed the Princess of Wales there to “protect” him.
William, Kate, and their children often vacation on the Isles of Scilly, and during his visit to the hospital, William met the location’s oldest resident, 102-year-old Hilda Richards. Richards had fallen at home the day before, and William sweetly asked her, “How are you feeling this morning?” to which she responded, “Fine, thank you.”

William’s sense of humor was on display again after being told Richards was the oldest resident on the Isles of Scilly. “I never ask a lady how old she is,” he said, to which Richards replied, “I’m 102.”

“You’re not?” he said. “Hilda, my goodness, that’s amazing. You don’t look anywhere near 102.” The centenarian, thankfully, was later discharged from the hospital and sent back home—but with a heck of a story to tell.

The redevelopment of the hospital is supported by William’s Duchy of Cornwall estate, and while visiting the hospital, the Prince of Wales met with construction workers who explained the challenges of building the facility on an island, according to Hello!.
Following his visit on Friday, William posted on social media about the Duchy of Cornwall’s latest undertakings, writing, “We are evolving what it means to be a landowner, moving from passive stewardship towards a more active contribution, with social and environmental purpose at its heart.”
“This represents a clear shift in our strategy,” he continued. “There is much more to do, and we are investing as quickly as we can while balancing a number of priorities, but our direction is clear.”

“Our ambition is to create opportunities for communities to truly live well, now and for generations to come,” William wrote. “We’re on a journey. We’re not suggesting we have everything right today, but our direction is clear: to place social and environmental purpose at the heart of how we evolve and what we do.”
Per People, the Duchy of Cornwall’s estate is valued around $1.3 billion. William inherited the Duchy from his father, King Charles, when he became the Duke of Cornwall in 2022, when his father took the throne.
The estate spans roughly 130,000 acres across England and Wales—and netted William about $30.9 million in the 2024-2025 financial year, People reported. William, an outspoken modernizer, is looking to sell about a fifth of the estate over the course of the next decade to invest in housing, environmental, and renewable energy initiatives, The Times reported on May 17.
