Mohamed Al-Fayed 'squeezed Diana's buttocks before making suggestive comment', claims Earl Spencer

Earl Spencer has claimed Mohamed Al-Fayed "squeezed" Princess Diana's buttocks in a disturbing exchange while she was dating his son, Dodi.

Swan Song: Diana, My Sister, the explosive book chronicling the late princess's life, contains a series of striking allegations - including claims about the King that have already drawn a sharp rebuke from Buckingham Palace.

More troubling, according to reports in the Daily Mail, Earl Spencer also recounts Al Fayed's behaviour towards his late sister, who told her brother that the Harrods tycoon had physically touched her inappropriately, following the act with a crude and suggestive remark.

Diana and Dodi Al-Fayed embarked on their whirlwind summer romance in 1997, less than a year after her divorce from then-Prince Charles.

The couple were said to have dated for roughly six weeks before the tragic car crash in a Paris tunnel, resulting in both of their deaths.

Earl Spencer praised Dodi as a "nice man," though he suggested Diana's intentions for the "fling" were to make one of her suitors "jealous".

However, the 62-year-old Earl did shed some light on an unsettling interaction with Dodi's father, Mohamed, who Diana "disliked".

He writes: "She [Diana] told me with revulsion how, early in her romance with Dodi, Mohamed had come up to her, dropped a hand onto her buttocks and squeezed them while saying in a leery, suggestive tone, 'And in Egypt, father-in-law gets first go…'"

Since his death on August 30, 2023, more than 400 survivors have come forward and made allegations of sexual misconduct against Al Fayed and other perpetrators linked to him, dating between 1977 and 2014, including sexual assault, rape, sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

The Metropolitan Police is dealing with at least 159 victims who contacted them directly, including 21 who came forward before Al Fayed’s death at the age of 94.

The investigation, known as Operation Cornpoppy, was launched in November 2024 and is looking at people who may have facilitated or enabled Al Fayed’s crimes.

Seven people have been questioned under caution: four women in their 40s, 50s, 60s and 80s, and three men in their 60s, 70s and 80s.

It is said that Harrods have set aside up to £50million to settle compensation claims.

Earl Spencer also revealed in his memoir that he had named Dodi in the first draft of his famous eulogy at Diana's funeral, only to take it out - a decision he now regrets.

"In my original eulogy draft I gave a small nod to Dodi Fayed, thanking him by name for making Diana happy in her last few weeks alive," he writes.

"I had never met him but had heard that he was a nice man who was good to Diana. Now I believe I was wrong to remove his name from my speech.

"I should have left him in, even though I reckon they most likely would not have married.

"I have always felt the fling with Dodi stemmed from Diana wanting to make another suitor - whom she loved deeply - jealous."

Earl Spencer's memoir on his late sister - which he says she would be "cheering from the rafters" for - is set to hit shelves on Tuesday, September 22.
