Michael Pittman Jr. Fantasy Week 2 Start or Sit: An 8.1% Target Share Is a Sit

Pittman led Pittsburgh in receiving yards in his first contest with the franchise, and he still lands 38th among wide receivers in PFN’s Week 2 rankings ahead of the trip to New England. Three targets and an 8.1% target share is not a diet anyone can live on, foot injury or not. Without consistent volume, I’m not interested.

Should You Start or Sit Michael Pittman Jr. in Week 2?

Pittman hauled in a 21-yard pass on Pittsburgh’s second drive and led the team in receiving yards during his first contest with the franchise.

That’s the good. The bad? It’s the Steelers under Aaron Rodgers.

This offense just has so little juice.

Pittman had three targets and led this team in receiving. He added a 28-yard catch later, but in a game with two chunk gains and a 100% catch rate for a player who rarely offers big-play potential, you have to hit double digits in PPR points at a minimum.

He didn’t.

The two longer catches were good to see, but I’m more discouraged by the 8.1% target share than I am encouraged by anything else in Pittman’s first showing alongside Aaron Rodgers. This game plan was clearly designed around DK Metcalf, and I don’t think that was an accident.

Cooper Kupp and Rashid Shaheed turned six targets into just 39 yards against New England last week as secondary options.

There’s a world in which Pittman is efficient in this offense, but without consistent volume, I’m not interested (the foot injury doesn’t help, though we don’t yet have evidence that it’s really going to be prohibitive). There isn’t a member of this passing game who I’m comfortable with in a neutral matchup, and this isn’t even that.
