Arizona State football played and won its Big 12 opener in London, at Wembley Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 19.

The Sun Devils held Kansas to 17 points in a 24-17 Week 3 win. Perhaps the team had a little extra motivation for this game — if anyone scrolled through social media before the game.

That is because Sarah Kezele, who works in communications at Arizona Sports & Events Alliance, posted something on X that she found at a shop before the game, and it is not a pretty sight for Arizona State University.

Scarves advertising Arizona against Kansas got it all wrong. Arizona is playing in Tucson this week, far from across the pond. Arizona State, however, was getting ready to beat the Jayhawks, who the vendors actually got right on the scarves.

London is not known for its passion for college football. It was an honest mistake. And the colors for ASU were right. Still, some ASU fans are well known for not accepting being mistakenly called Arizona.

Those fans might point to the Sun Devils having won 18 conference championships to Arizona's 12 or having seven more all-time wins (635) than Arizona (628) as reasons why ASU deserves more respect than the name mix-up suggests. Their rivalry is one of the biggest in college football, after all.

ASU did let London know their name on the field, though.

After winning the Union Jack Classic, ASU is now tied for a spot atop the Big 12 conference at 1-0 in-conference with No. 11 BYU and No. 13 Texas Tech.
