For his Bridgerton costars, Bailey earning the title was no surprise, but they shared their cheeky reactions to the news in a new interview

The Bridgerton cast is always rooting for Jonathan Bailey.

The 37-year-old actor is PEOPLE's reigning Sexiest Man Alive, and while that's just one item among a long list of accolades that his costars are celebrating on his behalf, they're also taking the win for the family.

In an interview ahead of the premiere of the Netflix hit series' fourth season, Luke Newton — who plays Colin Bridgerton, the younger brother to Bailey's Anthony — was asked if he was "annoyed" not to have gotten the call himself, and he had a cheeky response.

"I mean, all I'll say is — I think it runs in the family," Newton, 32, said with a laugh.

Newton went on to say that he has "absolutely" congratulated Bailey on his SMA title, as he said, "There's been so much to congratulate Johnny on this year."

Claudia Jessie, who plays their on-screen sister, Eloise, then jumped in, as she joked, "Imagine that — Jurassic Park, Wicked — nah, mate, well done for being fit!"

Newton affirmed that the cast is "constantly checking in" with Bailey as his career continues to explode.

Bridgerton marked Bailey's breakout role, and he led the series' second season alongside Simone Ashley.

In his Sexiest Man Alive cover interview, he recalled a moment in 2020, shortly after season 1 premiered, when the reality of his newfound fame really hit him.

“I had the radio set for my alarm, and one morning it went off with, ‘Here’s the news at 7. But just before we go, can we talk about Jonathan Bailey?’ " he recalled. “I was like, ‘Where is my journal? Is this real?’ It was wild."

He returns as the Viscount in season 4, and said on Good Morning America last year of the upcoming installment: “The thing about Bridgerton, which is so brilliant, is that there’s so many different ways you can fall in love as humans, and that’s what this show will explore. Obviously, being the older brother, I’m going to be there to support the youngsters as we go.”

Getting to return every year to see a new Bridgerton sibling fall in love — this season follows Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie (Yerin Ha) — is a privilege in Bailey's mind.

"What an amazing thing to be a part of," he said on Late Night with Seth Meyers in 2024. "I'll always pop back and say hello."

Part 1 of Bridgerton season 4 premieres Jan. 29 on Netflix, followed by Part 2 on Feb. 26.
