Apple TV’s hit series The Morning Showis coming to an end. The streamer revealed on Thursday that the upcoming fifth season will also the show’s last.
Apple TV renewed the drama starring Jennifer Aniston and Reese Witherspoon for season 5 just one day before the season 4 premiere, calling the Emmy-winning drama a “standout from the very start.”
In a press release announcing the news of its upcoming conclusion, Apple’s head of Worldwide Video Zack Van Amburg said, “Seeing this incredible Apple TV series through from start to finish has been the joy of a lifetime and career.”
“Jennifer, Reese, [executive producers] Michael [Ellenberg] and Mimi [Leder] not only created a series that continually challenged audiences, sparked conversation and stood at the forefront of television over five unforgettable seasons, they also helped launch an entirely new streaming platform with their signature series,” Van Amburg added. “The Morning Show team consists of the best cast and crew in television, led by Charlotte Stoudt’s exceptional writing and showrunning. As we celebrate this final chapter, while also beginning new ones with these brilliant artists and storytellers, we’re endlessly grateful to everyone who made The Morning Show such an enduring part of Apple TV.”

Aniston and Witherspoon, who executive-produce and star as anchors on the show, took to social media to share some parting words for the bittersweet news.
“Laughing and crying 🥹,” Aniston captioned a three-slide Instagram post of her and Witherspoon behind the scenes of the show. “Final season of @themorningshow incoming... MUCH more to come ❤️”
Witherspoon shared a video on Instagram featuring numerous clips of the cast and crew on set, with the caption, “8 years. 5 seasons. So many memories. 🥹 I can’t wait for you to see the final season of @themorningshow ! ☀️”
The duo also shared their thoughts in a press release announcing the news.
“From the beginning, Apple has supported our vision for The Morning Show, and we feel so lucky to have had the opportunity to tell stories that reflect what’s happening in the world around us with a twist of dark humor,” Aniston shared in a statement. “It’s been such a privilege to work with this insanely talented cast, and our extraordinary writers, producers, and crew. We’ve become such a family and we’re all so excited to share this final season. And going in knowing it would be our last, we were so fortunate to craft the conclusion with intentionality, and honor these characters the way they deserve.”
Witherspoon continued, “The past nine years producing and acting in The Morning Show have been the honor of a lifetime. This was always more than a show about a newsroom — it was a show about why the newsroom matters. About freedom of the press, and the journalists who protect the fourth estate, often at great cost. Telling that story has been the creative privilege of my career.”
“Thank you to Apple for their unwavering support, to our visionary writers, our incredible crew, and our extraordinarily talented cast, who brought five seasons to life with a truth audiences believed every step of the way,” the Legally Blonde star added. “It has been a stellar creative experience — one I will always treasure.”

Showrunner Charlotte Stoudt also teased what’s to come in the final installment in a statement: “For five seasons, these messy, resilient journalists have chased their dreams. Now we’ll see where their endeavors lead them — what story will they ultimately choose for themselves.”

The Morning Show was Apple TV’s flagship original series, premiering on the same day that the streaming service launched, Nov. 1, 2019.
The possibilities for what could go down in the final season are endless. Season 4 of the series took place in spring 2024, almost two years after the events of season 3, and welcomed guest stars Aaron Pierre, William Jackson Harper, Boyd Holbrook, and Academy Award winners Marion Cotillard and Jeremy Irons. With the UBA-NBN merger complete, the newsroom had to grapple with newfound responsibility, hidden motives, and the elusive nature of truth in a polarized America.
In the harrowing season finale, Alex (Aniston) finally gets her former cohost Bradley (Witherspoon) out of Belarusian custody. After she and Paul (Hamm) unsuccessfully tried to broker a deal with a Russian oligarch that would help Bradley return home, Celine Dumont (Cotillard) blackmails Alex into quitting her job at UBN.
At first, Alex is at a total loss, seemingly ready to give up. But when her father, Martin Levy (Irons) — who is fresh off a public disgrace of his own — shows up at her door, she finds some renewed strength. She, Martin, and Chip (Duplass) concoct a plan to expose Celine — with the help of Cory (Crudup) at the last minute.
It all comes to a head at a very dramatic press conference during which Celine threatens to keep Bradley in Belarus forever — and thanks to Cory, that threat is broadcast live, proving her involvement in the EPA cover-up.
