Artificial intelligence (AI) might be coming for your job. Knowing if you’re about to be replaced by a machine is important, so you can start preparing for a career change.
It can be hard to understand the depths of AI’s abilities, so I asked ChatGPT which jobs are in jeopardy. Keep reading to find out if the chatbot named your profession.
Data-Heavy, Repetitive Office Roles -
Examples of high-risk professions: Data entry clerks, payroll and time-tracking clerks, basic bookkeeping assistants, invoice processing clerks, compliance form processors
The chatbot said these roles are already being automated and data backs it up. From 2024 to 2034, employment of financial clerks is expected to fall 7% and employment of bookkeeping, accounting and auditing clerks is expected to decline 6%, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS).

Customer Support and Call Center Jobs -
Examples of high-risk professions: Tier-one customer service representatives, phone-based help desk agents, reservation and scheduling agents
“AI voice agents and chatbots are taking over routine support,” ChatGPT, said.
This appears to be true, as demand for customer service representatives is expected to decline 5% by 2034, according to the BLS.
Content Production at Scale -
Examples of high-risk professions: Basic copywriters, SEO blog writers, social media caption creators, product description writers
AI isn’t coming after all creative jobs, just those that produce repetitive, high-volume content, the chatbot said.
Through 2034, employment of media and communications workers is expected to increase only 2%, compared with 3% for all occupations, according to the BLS.
Administrative and Clerical Work -
Examples of high-risk professions: Executive/administrative assistants/appointment schedulers, order entry clerks, claims processing assistants
“Anything involving scheduling, documentation or coordination is highly automatable,” ChatGPT said.
Data doesn’t lie — employment of office and administrative support occupations is expected to decline 4% through 2034, according to the BLS.
Simple Retail and Service Tasks -
Examples of high-risk professions: Cashiers, fast food order takers, inventory counters, basic warehouse pickers
AI won’t entirely replace humans in these roles, but due to automation, fewer employees will be needed, ChatGPT said.
Quite telling, through 2034, cashier jobs are expected to decline 10%, while retail sales worker jobs are predicted to drop 4%, according to BLS.
Transportation and Delivery Jobs -
Examples of high-risk professions: Long-haul trucking, last-mile delivery scooters/robots, warehouse forklifts
All delivery jobs won’t be lost to AI, just those on repetitive routes, according to the chatbot.
Only time will tell if this prediction is accurate, as it’s not evident in data. Employment of motor vehicle operators is expected to rise 5%, while jobs for heavy and tractor-trailer truck drivers is expected to increase 4% — compared with 3% for all occupations — through 2034, according to the BLS.
Low-Level Tech and Support Roles -
Examples of high-risk professions: Manual QA testers, junior-level coding tasks, routine IT support
“AI writes and fixes simple code well,” ChatGPT said.
Through 2034, employment of computer programmers is expected to decline 6% and computer user support specialists jobs are predicted to drop 4%, according to the BLS.
Simple Sales and Lead-Gen Jobs -
Examples of high-risk professions: Sales development representative, appointment setters, basic telemarketing
AI agents have the ability to prospect, email, qualify and perform product demonstrations, the chatbot said.
Overall, the demand for sales and related occupations is expected to decline 2% through 2034, according to the BLS.
