Every comedian knows the feeling of having relatives attempt to pitch sketch, stand-up or series ideas that are completely unusable. Well, Will Forte has found a use for them.

The Saturday Night Live legend has always been an impossible comedian to place in a box. From the diversity of his characters during his SNL run to his work on bizarro comedy series like Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job! to the cult success (and unexpectedly long life) of the MacGruber franchise, it’s impossible to know what Forte is going to do next, which must have been infuriating for his mother, who had to keep track of which spec scripts to send him.

Like the parents of many of Forte’s peers, Patti Forte did everything she could to help out her son during his time working at 30 Rockefeller Plaza, which included sending him a constant stream of unrequested sketch ideas. As the younger Forte explained during a recent appearance on NBC News, following years of unprompted pitches from his mom, he's finally decided to team up with her and create a mother-son sketch show out of all her many years of unused material.

I'd bet that Hannah Einbinder could rack up a dozen more Emmys with the exact same idea.

“My mother used to pitch ideas to me when I was at SNL,” Forte explained of the inspiration behind his newest project, giving a long, non-committal and nearly wordless answer when his hosts asked him if those ideas were any good. “I would always say, ‘Mom, why don’t you save that for the Patti Forte sketch show?'” Forte recalled. Now, 16 years after he left SNL, Forte is finally ready to help his mom get her own series off the ground.

“Just this last August, September, we made six episodes with my mom and her 82-year-old friend Carol, all writing their own comedy and acting in those sketches,” Forte said about the long-overdue Patti Forte Sketch Show. But while the episodes are in the can and ready to go, Forte and his family still need to “find a home for it.”

This wouldn't be the first time when Forte has collaborated with his mother. In his post-apocalyptic comedy series The Last Man on Earth, Forte recruited Patti to play his character's mom in two episodes. And, of course, Forte serenaded poor Patti during a 2005 episode of SNL with a “Weekend Update” song about her death.

So, really, Forte has owed his mom a show for 21 years, since she astoundingly allowed him to continue living after that one.
