Fox News Tops Broadcast Giants In Primetime Ratings As Morning Race Narrows

Fox News Channel topped ABC, CBS, and NBC in total weekday primetime audience for the week of July 13, according to Nielsen Media Research Big Data + Panel data.

During the week, Fox News averaged 2.9 million viewers and 293,000 viewers in the 25–54 demographic during weekday primetime. That beat NBC’s 2.5 million viewers, ABC’s 2.4 million, and CBS’s 2.1 million. Across Monday through Sunday, the network drew 2.5 million viewers in primetime and 1.5 million in total day coverage.

The week also saw significant shifts in the morning show lineup. CBS Mornings delivered the lowest-rated week in its program history in both total viewers and the 25–54 demographic. The show saw its audience drop by 13% to 1,591,000 total viewers.

Meanwhile, FOX & Friends grew by 4% to reach 1,460,000 viewers, closing the gap with the broadcast morning program to 131,000 viewers.

The overall ratings period coincided with the 15th anniversary of The Five, which ranked as the week’s most-watched cable news program. The show averaged 3.4 million total viewers and 316,000 in the 25–54 demographic. Year-to-date, the program averages nearly 3.8 million viewers, maintaining a 154% audience increase since its 2011 launch.

In evening broadcast coverage, CBS Evening News averaged 3.8 million total viewers and 471,000 demo viewers, marking its third consecutive week under 4 million total viewers.

In late-night television, Fox News’ Gutfeld! pulled in 2.6 million viewers at 10 p.m. ET. That total exceeded broadcast late-night offerings, including NBC’s The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon (1.4 million), ABC’s Jimmy Kimmel Live! (1.4 million), CBS’s Comics Unleashed (806,000), and NBC’s Late Night with Seth Meyers (799,000).

Fox News’ evening lineup included Special Report with Bret Baier at 2.6 million viewers, The Ingraham Angle at 2.5 million, Jesse Watters Primetime at 3.2 million, and Hannity at 3.1 million. In daytime programming, network shows including America’s Newsroom, The Faulkner Focus, Outnumbered, America Reports, and The Story with Martha MacCallum each averaged 1.7 million viewers, while The Will Cain Show averaged 2 million. These totals topped broadcast daytime competitors NBC News Daily (1.6 million), ABC’s GMA3 (1.5 million), and Today with Jenna & Sheinelle (1.4 million).

On the weekend, Saturday In America led cable news programming on Saturday with 1.6 million viewers, followed by FOX News Live at 1.4 million. On Sunday, Sunday Morning Futures brought in 1.5 million viewers, while The Sunday Briefing averaged 1.3 million.
