Orville Peck has disclosed he previously kissed a Las Vegas Raiders football player, though the country music artist has kept fans speculating about the athlete's name.

The openly gay performer included the unexpected revelation in his latest track, 'Ring the Bell,' which appears on his fourth studio album, 'Mule,' dropping Friday. Peck references his passion for sports and a notable interaction with an NFL player, providing insight into his personal experiences while maintaining the mystery surrounding the athlete's identity.

"I love the Lakers, the Mets and the Longhorns, made out with a guy on the Raiders," Peck sings in the song. It comes as Sophie Cunningham fired back at her critics after brutally snubbing Team USA's World Cup stars.

Peck's verse has generated buzz among fans, especially following Peck's remarks about the player during a 'Variety' interview.

In his conversation with the publication on Thursday, Peck verified that the incident mentioned in the song actually happened and that he had obtained approval from the athlete to feature it in his lyrics.

"I'm going to preface this by saying that I did receive permission to sing that lyric from the subject in question and he was very thrilled," Peck said. The musician revealed he had consulted with the player prior to the song's release, emphasizing his intention to maintain an air of mystery around the identity.

"I told him, 'Look, I'm gonna keep it sort of ambiguous and mysterious, but I would like to include this in this song,'" Peck recounted.

Peck mentioned the player felt "very, very honored" to be included in the track, though he declined to disclose the athlete's identity.

The singer also highlighted the significance of safeguarding the player's privacy, explaining he wouldn't have incorporated the reference if it concerned someone uncomfortable with their sexuality becoming public knowledge.

"I would never have done it if it were somebody who was hiding or fearful of it coming out," Peck stated. These remarks have prompted some fans to theorize the song might reference Carl Nassib, the former Raiders defensive end who made NFL history in 2021.

Nassib became the first active NFL player to publicly come out as gay, revealing his sexuality while with the Raiders. He later became the first openly gay player to participate in an NFL playoff game when the Raiders met the Cincinnati Bengals.

Nevertheless, Peck has not verified that Nassib is the player mentioned in the song, and no public statement from Nassib has emerged to support the speculation. When pressed on whether the unnamed athlete was in fact Nassib, Peck refused to either confirm or deny the claim.

"People can use their own common sense and discovery to try and figure out who it may be, but that's all I'll say," he told Variety.
