Carnell Tate Fantasy Week 2 Start or Sit: Bench the Rookie for Now
Tate led the Titans in receiving in his NFL debut and needed only 38 yards to do it, which tells you where this offense sits as Philadelphia visits. He’s 37th among wide receivers in PFN’s Week 2 rankings, and only one of his targets was of the vertical variety. I don’t see how you can be comfortable playing him in any format yet.
Should You Start or Sit Carnell Tate in Week 2?
We love to see Tate lead the Titans in receiving in his NFL debut, but the fact that it only required 38 yards to do so is the catch. This is an offense that isn’t in a spot to maximize what it is that their rookie WR1 does best, something that was abundantly clear on Sunday when, against a defense that literally hasn’t intercepted a pass in more than 600 days, they turned 32 attempts into just 140 yards.

Only one of his targets was of the vertical variety, and if quality of look is going to be hard to come by (spoiler alert: it will be), we need access to more single-target upside to justify going this direction in any capacity.
Tate, of course, needs to be held because the role is there and the game scripts are going to lean in his favor, but I don’t see how you can be comfortable in considering him as a viable option in any format until we see Cam Ward take at least one, maybe multiple, steps forward in terms of reading defenses and/or aggression.
